Copenhagen

København

Copenhagen Area Information

Welcome to Wonderful Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark where over 6,000 years of history awaits you. Copenhagen was founded in year 1167, but there is evidence showing that Copenhagen existed as a colony thousand of years before that.

Denmark is the world’s oldest monarchy. The reigning monarch, Queen Margrethe II, lives in Copenhagen at Amalienborg Castle. Denmark’s best known King Christian IV (1588-1648) was responsible for many of Copenhagen’s finest buildings like the Round Tower and Rosenborg Castle.

Copenhagen consists of a number of urban areas. Each area has its own charm and history. Vesterbro was Copenhagen’s former working class and red light district. Now it is one of the more hip quarters to live in. Here you will find a range of café’s, restaurants, shops and music venues. Nørrebro is the multicultural area of Copenhagen. Nørrebro has some very popular shopping areas; second hand clothing stores are a big thing in this area. Many smaller shops with coming designers are also to be found down in Nørrebro. Østerbro is the distinguished quarter of Copenhagen where you will find the more exclusive shopping. This is the place to be if you are looking for the well known designer stores.  If you want a nice jog in the city, then Sortedams Lake can be recommended. Many people come here for a walk, jogging, bird feeing or just to enjoy all the life that you’ll find along the lake. Østerbro has many green areas and open spaces. Copenhagen’s largest park is also located in Østerbro. Next to the park is Denmark’s national stadium PARKEN where not only Copenhagen’s local football team FC Copenhagen plays but also Denmark’s national football team. PARKEN is also used for big international concerts.
