On a hill of olive trees looking out to the Aeolian Islands, the Best Western Plus Hotel Terre di Eolo, Patti, Italy, fills a restored early-1900s farmhouse about 900 metres above the beach at Mongiove. Surrounded by olive groves and quiet countryside, with sweeping sea views and homegrown local produce, it makes a restful Sicilian base. The coast road, the marina and the sandy beaches lie just below. A restaurant showcasing local produce and a sun terrace round out the restful country stay. The volcanic Aeolian Islands float on the horizon offshore, reached by boat from the nearby coast, the headland sanctuary of the Black Madonna of Tindari and the Greek and Roman ruins of Tindari rise close by above the curving Marinello lagoons, and inland the beech forests, lakes and rounded peaks of the Nebrodi Park, cared for by its park authority, climb toward Sicily's wild interior.
